Recognized for Academic Excellence

Elizabeth Silver, from Sleepy Hollow and a student at Washington Irving School in Tarrytown was recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children, held by The John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY).

Since 1979, CTY has sought the most academically able elementary and middle school students and has encouraged their enrollment in CTY’s annual Talent Search. Students enrolled in the Talent Search go on to test throughout the fall and spring. The results of these tests give families a better idea of the children’s academic talents.

Over 63,000 students from nineteen states and the District of Columbia participated in these Talent Searches during 2007-2008 and about 25% of seventh and eighth grade testers earned an invitation to an Awards Ceremony.
