Letters to the Editor: Questioning New School Logo

Students, alumni and residents of Irvington, are you aware of what is happening in our School District regarding the new logo design? We believe that our School District identity is being compromised in an effort to create a new, more modern look. A group of students met with the graphic designers, BOE member Michael Hanna and Superintendent Harrison. The designers explained how they could have taken the look two ways: traditional or progressive. The designers and BOE members favored the progressive one. Although we expressed our disappointment, it was stated that they wanted a modern look because it is 2017. After sharing our opinions about the logo and its disregard for our history, we still felt as if our concerns were not given any serious consideration.

Our District is more than 150 years old and we have very strong ties to our heritage which deserves to be represented in our school logo. It should be one that embraces our longstanding traditions, especially if this logo will be how we are viewed on the website and official District stationery.

We will be presenting our ideas, for a logo which we believe reflects our commitment to our legacy, at the next BOE meeting on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 pm in the Campus Presentation Room. Come and support your fellow community members. See you there!
