Irvington Turf & Track Proposition Set for Dec. 17

Press Release from BOE

At the Oct. 28 meeting, the Board of Education approved a resolution to call a Special District Meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, for the community to vote on a proposition for the proposed field renovation project, with the option to vote on a second proposition if they vote "yes" on the first.

The proposal is the result of nearly four years of public discussion regarding the options for renovating the fields on the Irvington High School/Middle School Campus. The Board of Education has taken into account the state of the economy, and in doing so, has modified the original proposal to its most essential components. The proposal will be presented in two propositions to give voters more choice on the extent of the work.

BOND PROPOSITION NO. 1 authorizes a track and field improvement program at Meszaros Field at the Irvington High School/Middle School Campus not to exceed $3,480,000 in cost. The project includes the installation of a new synthetic playing field; the construction/reconstruction of a new track, including a 6-lane loop track and a 6-lane sprint track; and the installation of field lighting and hose reels; the

foregoing to include the original equipment, machinery, apparatus and ancillary or related site drainage, fencing, demolition and other work required in connection with the work project.

In the event Bond Proposition No. 1 is approved, voters will be asked to vote on BOND PROPOSITION NO. 2. It calls for the construction of athletic improvements at East Field at the Irvington High School/Middle School Campus not to exceed $2,570,000. This project is to include field reconstruction and reorientation, and the installation of natural turf fields; and paving and parking improvements; the foregoing to include the original equipment, machinery, apparatus and ancillary or related site drainage, demolition and other work required in connection with the project. If this Bond Proposition No. 2 is approved, it shall become effective only in the event that Bond Proposition No. 1 is approved.
