Bellas — A True “Family” Restaurant

While many places claim to be “family restaurants,” Bellas Restaurant in Tarrytown takes that term as literally as possible, having three generations of the Bellas family working there.

Bellas Restaurant has been a family-run and operated business for over twenty-six years since Constantinos, or “Gus” as he is warmly called by his friends and regulars, established the restaurant. Gus, a native of Yiannina, Greece, started off as an accountant but later was introduced to the restaurant business by his father-in-law. The two operated C & G Luncheonette in downtown Manhattan for several years. Bellas in Tarrytown opened in 1980 and his son John worked at both restaurants while Gus ran the luncheonette. In 1981, C & G Luncheonette was sold and Gus began to work with John at Bellas Restaurant. Since then, Bellas has firmly established itself as a staple in the community and has added another Bellas to the staff, John’s son Dean.

All three members of the Bellas family have been integral in the success and future success of this popular restaurant. Bellas was most recently given the distinct honor for serving “Westchester’s Best Breakfast.”

In this writer’s humble opinion, you can’t get a better eggs benedict and home fries in the entire state. Despite the accolades, it’s the quality and care in their service that the staff of Bellas take the most pride in. “Making people happy makes me happy,” said Gus. Making people happy is exactly what Bellas does. On weekends, Gus makes sure to give the children that come to see him a fresh donut or cookie. “The kids call me the ‘Donut Man’,” Gus added with a smile. In return, to show their thanks, the kids color and draw him pictures that he proudly displays right next to the register. It’s no wonder that there is such a large number of regular customers of all ages who keep coming back.

Now that Bellas has extended its hours to dinner time, customers have yet another reason to come back. Bellas now offers, during its extended weeknight hours, a variety of dinner specials. This move has been extremely popular especially for those customers that come in early for breakfast or lunch and don’t want to leave.

All in all, Bellas serves incredible food in a warm, friendly environment, where 7 days a week the Bellas family invites you and your family to come and join them. Bellas Restaurant is located at 5 South Broadway in Tarrytown and can be reached at (914) 332-0444.
