A Nu Toy Store is entering its eighth month of business with a 2009 Family Favorite Award from Westchester Family Magazine for Best Independent Toy Store.
The business, owned by Angel Rafter, sells toys below retail prices. "I go out to tag sales and church sales to find things," she said.
Rafter’s idea of "used" includes toys that have been previously purchased but never opened, such as hard to find toys like Lego kits from 1995 and Star Wars figures from the 1970s. She still carries trendy toys like Barbie and Pokemon as well as environmental toys. "We try to have a nice mix," she said.
The shop has an activity area to keep children occupied while parents shop. Rafter also buys "new" toys provided they are in the original package. A Nu Toy Store is located at 36½ Main Street in Tarrytown. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 11 am to 6 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm. For questions, call (914)-372-7144.
