Aldo DiLaura, a senior at Lakeland High School and proud member of Boy Scout Troop 164, has completed an Eagle Scout Project to give kindergartners at George Washington Elementary School a place to store and showcase their larger books
Aldo explained, “Big pictures help young children remember complex ideas and develop important skills like vocabulary and comprehension by engaging their creativity. Specifically, large pictures and words help with language development and critical thinking skills.”
The bins Aldo built provide a safe and organized environment in the classroom. The self-funded project provides a way to display the colorful books, which teachers use every day.
“Reading in kindergarten is an integral part of every day learning,” said Dr. Karen Gagliardi, superintendent of schools. “We are so grateful for this new way to display and care for the oversized books which bring reading to life for our young students.”
Congratulations to DiLaura on this achievement and thank you for creating spaces which make picture books more accessible to kindergartners!
