New York State Senator Pete Harckham and Assemblymember Dana Levenberg visited Peekskill High School yesterday to hear a presentation from students in the Generation Citizen program, a nonprofit organization that brings hands-on civics education into classrooms. The students focused on alcoholism and substance use disorders, collecting data, researching policy solutions, and launching an advocacy campaign that included outreach to local officials and social media efforts. After presenting their work to the two state legislators, the students asked questions about the legislative process and how they can effectively promote change in their communities.
