Hudson Valley Books for Humanity, in partnership with Michelle Carter of The Death Expert, invites the community to a candid and compassionate conversation about death, dying, and end-of-life choices. Known as a Death Cafe, this free, open-to-the-public event creates a welcoming space for individuals to explore one of life’s most profound topics in a supportive environment.
The gathering will feature two distinguished experts who will share their knowledge and answer questions:
David C. Leven, Executive Director Emeritus and Senior Consultant with End of Life Choices New York, will discuss New York’s Medical Aid in Dying legislation and the options available to terminally ill patients.
Colin Sandler, LCSW, of Medicaid Solutions, will provide essential guidance on navigating Medicaid, long-term care planning, and financial considerations for aging and end-of-life care.
The Death Cafe is organized by Michelle Carter, a licensed funeral director, end-of-life coach, and founder of The Death Expert. She will facilitate this community gathering, which is intentionally designed as a conversation rather than a lecture. Attendees are encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, or simply listen in a judgment-free environment.
“Whether you’re supporting a loved one, working in end-of-life care, or simply exploring your own feelings about mortality, this event offers a rare opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue about death and dying,” Carter said.
Books, beer, cider, and wine will be available for purchase during the event. No other sales or promotions will take place.
