Fourth grade students from George Washington Elementary School had the unique opportunity to step onto the floor of the New York State Assembly in Albany and see first-hand where laws are made and history is written.
Welcomed by Assemblyman Matt Slater (District 94), the students put their social studies knowledge of the judicial system to work as they engaged in a thoughtful conversation about leadership, lawmaking, and the vital role citizens play in our democracy. Spending a day at the
State Capitol, students engaged directly with elected officials, walked the historic halls, and participated in civic engagement. This field trip blended the real-world with the social studies curriculum showcasing Lakeland’s commitment to experiential learning.
