Dows Lane Elementary School’s national recognition was celebrated this summer as Superintendent Dr. Mara Ratesic and Principal Dr. Andrea Kantor traveled to Orlando, Florida, to formally accept the 2026 National Gold Star Award during the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) Gold Star Schools Awards ceremony.
The National Gold Star School Award recognizes schools that demonstrate excellence through three key pillars: established culture, empowered people and
optimal systems. Dows Lane was one of 57 schools nationwide selected to receive the award during its inaugural year.
During the ceremony, keynote speaker Dr. Miguel Cardona, former U.S. Secretary of Education, spoke about schools of excellence and the leaders who foster educational cultures where students, staff and families thrive.
“It is such an honor to receive this award for Dows Lane,” Dr. Kantor said. “We work hard as a staff to create the most glorious culture for our students, families and each other, and I am so proud.”
The award celebrates Dows Lane’s continued commitment to creating an exceptional learning environment while recognizing the dedication of its educators, staff, and school community.
