BMS Eighth Graders Use Geometry to Explore Logos

Gina Cotone’s eighth grade math class, with the help of BMS teacher Austin Perry, was introduced to transformational geometry through the lens of logo and advertising designs. Students were assigned the task of creating a logo or advertisement applying what they learned about translations, rotations or reflections. As an added bonus, a group of students from the high school presented their findings on how logos and design influenced their choices and a parent presenter who works at HBO outlined elements to consider when designing a logo.

Cotone said, “Students enjoyed creating unique advertisements and performing transformations on logos at the end of the unit.”
