Verizon Wireless Expanding Across Westchester

In 2002, Monica Mitter and her husband, Jaglish Mitter of Scarsdale, opened a Verizon Cell Phone Franchise retail store in Tarrytown at 15 North Broadway.

That year they followed with store openings in Ardsley and White Plains. The next year they opened in Scarsdale, Bronxville, Ossining and Somers. Jaglish is the owner of the well-known and popular restaurant featuring Indian food, in Greenburgh, called the Royal Palace, and Monica is now the General Manager of their Verizon franchises.

Today’s cell phone can supply a increasing variety of useful communication functions such as global positioning and navigation, music, TV programming, E-Mail, downloading photographs, and banking functions. Additionally, one of the key features of the product is called "Bluetooth." A "Bluetooth" unit can be attached to the ear in what is known as "hands free" technology, meaning that this piece of operating equipment can deliver instructions to the cell phone from another room or location. Monica says that they now have customers from the age of "seven through ninety" and while their original customers skewed younger, older customers are now getting used to the concept. The stores now have 15 managers and salespeople. Many of them are still in college or have recently graduated. When asked to assess the progress of the stores, Monica felt that things were "right on target" but declined to predict where or how many new stores are on the horizon.

Monica has two children of her own, a son 19, and a daughter 16, who may eventually take their own place down the line in the business. Monica can be reached at the Scarsdale headquarters store at 1088 Central Park Avenue at (914) 472-4784.
