Happenings @ The Writers’ Center

The Hudson Valley Writers’ Center is celebrating 20 years of advancing the art and craft of writing. This spring HVWC received the Westchester Arts Council Arts Organization of the Year award and the President’s Award from Junior League of Westchester-on-Hudson.

This summer HVWC will be recognized by Westchester Magazine as a 2008 Best of Westchester Edit pick for "Source for Literary Inspiration."

The Summer Sunset Series of readings will once again be held on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at HVWC — which is the restored Philipse Manor Railroad Station in Sleepy Hollow. The series kicks off on July 16 with a musical performance by local songwriters Anthony Da Costa and Emilyn Brodsky. On July 23 local fiction writers DeLaun?© Michel and Jamie Malanowski will read, and in August we feature poets Patricia Spears Jones and Elaine Sexton on August 6 and poets Renato Rosaldo and Javier Huerta on August 13.

In addition to a stellar reading series, the summer class and workshop offerings are robust. This summer HVWC will offer four classes for children and teens in addition to a wide variety of courses for adult writers.

Finally, please save the date because the Annual Autumn Celebration will be held early this year. Join the fun on September 19 when HVWC honors Ben Cheever, Brenda Connor-Bey and Donald Stever at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club for an event celebrating 20 years and featuring Billy Collins. You will not want to miss this!
