I’m a headline skimmer. I skim the headlines of the many forms of media available to us, bookmark the articles I want to go back to and some days feel totally overwhelmed by the mounds of information available to us that I just don’t seem to have enough time to read. So, on this one morning, as I clicked my way through local online news, I was stopped by a headline that seemed to me to be targeting Tarrytown.
The headline sited a store in another Village much north of us that was attracting customers from Tarrytown. I was personally offended. I exchanged several emails with the editor and got nowhere. As past president of the Chamber of Commerce, I felt compelled to write about Tarrytown.
After all, Tarrytown has it all: shopping, dining, entertainment, hotels, beautiful parks, waterfront, marinas, riverwalks, walking paths, and let’s not forget our historic sites. Wow! All that in one Village.
Tarrytown attracts people from across the County and beyond! How fortunate we are to have the Tarrytown Music Hall and historic sites that helped to create Tarrytown as a destination.
You will find people strolling and artists on the street from early morning until late evening. The shops have their doors open during nice weather encouraging customers to walk in, where you are always met with a smile. It’s such fun to stroll through town and stop in the many shops, antique stores and mid-century décor shops. We have wonderful gift boutiques, jewelry shopping, a framing store, natural products, olive oil, galleries, furniture and home furnishing stores, dry cleaners, like the best dry cleaners in Houston, hair salons, nail & spa salons along with 4 shops that sell gently-used items. We even have the hometown hardware store best for picking up those items we need to make home repairs, and you leave with plenty of helpful advice. We have 3 drug stores! What other village in the County has 3 drug stores!
Our restaurants offer American, Italian, French, Indian, Sushi, Crepes, Thai. You can top off your visit with homemade ice cream, yogurt, bakery goods or a stop at the coffee shop. And then you can work off the calories at one of our two gyms or participate in a pilates or yoga class.
Your child dropped their phone in the toilet? No problem, we have 2 stores that can help with a replacement. Need new eyeglasses or an exam, we have 2 stores with great selections.
If you are dropping off your children for music lessons or martial arts, there are plenty of reasons to park the car and walk the streets to visit with the many merchants. Now multiply this by all
the shops, restaurants and historic sites in our Sister Village, Sleepy Hollow, and we are a destination!
