Barbara Winter Gommi of Bloomfield Hills, MI, formerly of Pocantico Hills, NY, died on January 10, 2025, at age 94 years. Born in New York City in 1930, she is the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth Winter Gommi.
She graduated from Roanoke College in Salem, VA, where she was elected to the National Honor Sorority Cardinal Key. Barbara spent her long career in medical research followed by independently producing and publishing international symposia in clinical medicine and clinical pharmacology for pharmaceutical manufacturers. She was known for her passion for horseback riding and birding. In retirement, she published two popular birding guides “Warblers on One Page” and “Hawks in Migration.”
She is a descendant of the Mayflower Pilgrims Priscilla Mullins and John Alden, and Dr. Shadrach Winslow, a physician in the American Revolution. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Her parents, twin sister Priscilla Winslow Circo, and younger sister Virginia Winthrop Vieira predeceased her. She is survived by her niece Peggy Rush and great nephew Benjamin Rush.
Interment has taken place at her family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery & Conservancy, Bronx, NY.
