Phelps Memorial Hospital Center’s Healthy Life series continues to offer the community a wide range of programs on health-related subjects as well as numerous health screenings and support groups. All events are free and take place on the Phelps campus, 701 N. Broadway in Sleepy Hollow, unless otherwise noted. The Phelps Healthy Life Calendar for December follows:
Sunday, December 2 – Tree Lighting Ceremony Annual tree lighting by Phelps Hospice in memory of or in honor of loved ones begins at 4:30 pm with a reception in the cafeteria at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow. Monday, December 3 – Look Good . . . Feel Better Look Good . . . Feel Better is a free program at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center for women going through cancer treatment that teaches them beauty techniques to help manage the appearance-related side effects of their treatment. Makeup kits donated by cosmetic companies are given to each participant to take home. The program is offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, The National Cosmetology Association, and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) Foundation. Presented by Sheri Silver, cosmetologist, from 7- 9 pm in Room 225 of the Medical Services Building at Phelps, 755 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow. Advance registration is required. Wednesday, December 5 – Mind Games Mind Games is a free activity and a fun way for seniors to help stimulate their minds and improve cognitive functioning (memory, visual recall, problem solving, focus and speed, and spatial reasoning) by playing Boggle, Set, the Memory Game, Sporkle and many other games in group, team and individual formats. Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow in the Auditorium at 2 p.m. Call 914-366-3937 to register.
Wednesdays, December 5, 12 and 19 – Evening Bereavement Support Group For adults who have lost a parent. Meetings are held from 6:30 – 8 pm at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center. The group is facilitated by Bereavement Coordinator Bess Steiger, LCSW, in Conference Room 225 of the 755 Building. Suggested donation: $10 per session. Thursday, December 13 – Afternoon Bereavement Support Group An ongoing support group for adults struggling with the loss of a loved one meets from 2 – 3:30 pm at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway in Sleepy Hollow in Room 235 of the 755 building. Led by Bess Steiger, LCSW, bereavement coordinator. Suggested donation: $10 per session. Call 914-366-3325 for information.
