Thousands of Native Plant Seeds to Be Given Away at Free Seed Event

Thousands of native plant seeds representing more than 100 species will be given away at the Westchester Native Plant Seed Event on Sunday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bedford Hills Community House.

The event is free and open to everyone. Visitors can choose from a wide variety of native plants, including many beginner-friendly species, and gardening professionals will be available to provide plant information and seed-starting guidance.

Growing native plants from seed is an easy and economical way to increase biodiversity and add natural beauty to our landscapes. Native plants provide essential food and habitat for bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife, many of which are experiencing significant population declines.

Many native seeds can be sown directly in the garden during fall and winter or started outdoors in containers. Visitors will receive information about the different germination requirements of the species available.

Contributions of locally collected native plant seeds are welcome, but you do not need to bring seeds to participate.

The Westchester Native Plant Seed Event is hosted by the Town of Bedford, Healthy Yards, Wild Ones Lower Hudson Valley, and Westchester Pollinators.
