Bring a frozen turkey (ham or chicken) to Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill’s (CHHOP) Annual Community Turkey Trot on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
The Gazebo in downtown Peekskill (Main and North Division) will be Turkey Trot central where registration begins at 8 am and the Trot at 9 am. The event is free to participants donating a turkey, ham or chicken, which are distributed, along with other nutritious foods, to families for their holiday meal through CHHOP-operated Fred’s Pantry. Direct monetary donations are also greatly appreciated.
This year, participants have their choice of a run, trot, walk or wheel through the city streets. Avid runners now have one measured mile to show off their “chops.” Participants in costumes — turkey leg hats and all – can compete for prizes.
Cynthia Knox, CEO of CHHOP, said, “The Annual Turkey Trot has become a must- attend event for the holiday calendar – one that the community truly looks forward to each year. We are so pleased to be able to host the Turkey Trot with the generous support of our sponsors. Housing and food security are human rights, and CHHOP is proud to be able to support the most vulnerable in our community when, where and how they need it.”
The event will benefit CHHOP’s Fred’s Pantry, Peekskill’s largest local resource for those in the community facing food insecurity. In 2023, Fred’s Pantry provided over 18,000 households with nearly a quarter-million meals, with almost two-thirds of the households new to the pantry. Fred’s Pantry is focused on providing fresh, nutritious, locally sourced food items. Studies show that healthy foods provide both physical well-being and mental health benefits.
