Westchester County Celebrates Italian Heritage Month with Flag-Raising Ceremony and Reception

County Executive Ken Jenkins joined residents, community leaders, and elected officials for the County’s annual Italian Heritage Month flag-raising at the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains. The ceremony celebrated the traditions and deep cultural impact of Italian-Americans who have called Westchester home for generations

Jenkins said: “Italian Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the families, traditions, and values that helped shape Westchester County. Our Italian-American residents have contributed immeasurably to the arts, business and civic life of our County, and this celebration is about honoring that lasting legacy.”

Deputy County Executive Richard Wishnie said: “The Italian-American story in Westchester is one of perseverance and promise. We celebrate not only their achievements but also their enduring commitment to civic life, which continues to strengthen our County today.”

County Attorney John Nonna said: “For many of us, this celebration is deeply personal. Our parents and grandparents came to this country with little more than determination and hope. Their sacrifices built the foundation on which our communities now thrive, and honoring them is both a privilege and a responsibility.”

President of the Westchester Coalition of Italian American Organizations Mara Persampieri said: “This annual celebration allows us to showcase the unity and pride of our Italian-American community, while also supporting the next generation through scholarships for Italian language students. Thanks to generous donors like John DeCicco and Michael Endico, we continue to honor and uplift young people who are embracing their heritage.”

Italian Heritage Month, celebrated each October, recognizes the history, culture, and enduring impact of Italian-Americans throughout the nation. Following the flag-raising ceremony, attendees gathered for a reception in the County Executive’s office, which featured traditional Italian cuisine, music and networking.
