The Rye Art Center’s “Art for Purchase” Artist & Business Pairings To Be Announced

After an enthusiastic response from the community and beyond, Art for Purchase, a new public art initiative presented by The Rye Arts Center, is proud to announce it has officially finished the selection process for this year’s open-air gallery on Purchase Street. From September 13th to October 11th, the storefronts of Downtown Rye will showcase the works of talented local and regional artists, turning everyday shopping and strolling into an art-filled experience.

The call for participation drew an overflowing number of submissions from artists, not only from Rye but from across Westchester County. The selection process was highly competitive, with 100+ applications representing a remarkable range of styles,  mediums, and perspectives. After thoughtful consideration, the event’s committee Co-chairs, Meera Agarwal, Sonia Hounsell, and Siân Roath carefully matched 20+ participating businesses with artists whose works will complement the space and the spirit of the location. Selected artists and businesses are now viewable at ryeartscenter.org and https://onecau.se/artforpurchase. Pairings are to be announced within the next few days.

“Our goal was to create pairings that feel organic and exciting, where the artwork amplifies the personality of the business and vice versa,” said Adam Levi, Executive Director at The Rye Arts Center. “We were blown away by the breadth and quality of submissions, and we’re confident the final lineup will inspire, surprise, and delight visitors.”

The public is invited to the Art for Purchase opening on Saturday, September 13th from 12–5 PM, which coincides with the annual Rye Library Book Sale on the Village Green, making it the perfect day to enjoy both literary and visual arts in the heart of downtown. The Art for Purchase “welcome center” will feature a table from our partnering, teen-led organization Big Picture Foundation with a special interactive project for visitors, and will also host live music from our Open Mic high school musicians, along with hands-on art activities. Throughout the day, participating artists will stop by to connect with visitors, making the table a lively hub of creativity.

By bringing together artists, merchants, and the greater community in a shared celebration of creativity, Art for Purchase continues to highlight the vital role that art plays in strengthening local culture and commerce.
