After a sold-out run in 2024, River’s Edge Theatre Company is bringing its provocative immersive show Peek-a-Boo back to Bethany Arts Community this October. Inspired by hidden histories of the Hudson Valley, this one-of-a-kind theatrical experience is brimming with intimate encounters, voyeuristic thrills, and deeply human performances.
Performances run October 16–19 and 23–26, 2025 at 7:30 PM.
Written by Meghan Covington (Artistic Director of River’s Edge Theatre Company) and directed by Jessica Irons (Artistic Director of Theater O), Peek-a-Boo is inspired by the infamous Peek-a-Boo Flats, a controversial club on Wildey Street in Tarrytown during the early 20th century. The show also weaves in historical figures such as Hulda the Witch, John Andre, and Sadie the Goat, transforming real Hudson Valley lore into an immersive world of intrigue, danger, and desire.
Audience members are invited to step back in time to a 1920s-style vaudeville and burlesque show—complete with dancers, illicit potions, and shadowy hallways where secrets are whispered and stories unfold. Guests follow characters through the club’s hidden spaces, and if they are lucky may even find themselves the sole spectator of an exclusive private scene.
This year’s production keeps the beloved characters and core story from 2024 but introduces brand-new secret scenes to surprise returning audiences and keep the narrative alive and evolving.
While Peek-a-Boo offers a tantalizing and spooky night out, it also reflects River’s Edge Theatre Company’s mission to inspire social change. Beneath the spectacle lie resonant themes of criminal justice reform, forgiveness, and second chances. The company will once again partner with Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prisons, encouraging donations to support their work providing college education, life skills, and reentry support to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people.
