The Ossining Historic Cemeteries Conservancy (OHCC) and the Town of Ossining will host a memorable afternoon of live music at a historic cemetery. Set against the scenic landscape of Dale Cemetery, the Jazz Picnic will feature a live performance by acclaimed local jazz musicians, offering attendees a memorable cultural experience in an unexpected setting.
The concert is scheduled for Sunday, September 27 from 2 PM to 4 PM.
Founded in 1852 and designed as part of the rural cemeteries movement, Dale Cemetery has long served as a peaceful resting place for numerous notable figures in local and national history. This special performance aims to celebrate the arts while bringing community members together to appreciate the history and beauty of Dale’s grounds.
“Sunday picnics in rural cemeteries were a popular pastime in the 19th and early 20th centuries,” according to OHCC’s president Jane Botticelli. “We are thrilled to welcome the community to Dale Cemetery for this annual event that honors both our past and our vibrant local music scene,” continued Botticelli. “Hearing music echo through such a lovely and historic place is truly special.”
The performance will feature The Sarah Cion Quartet, a group of musicians known for their contemporary arrangements and expressive interpretations of classical jazz standards.
Tickets are $25 and include a snack and beverage. All proceeds benefit OHCC’s ongoing restoration and preservation efforts in Dale and Sparta Cemeteries. Parking is available inside the cemetery. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets.
