This fall and winter, the Denizen Theatre will present a new independent movie every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night, special live in-person Filmmaker Q & A events, the Fourth Friday comedy series through October, the Love’s A Joke comedy tour, Wednesday happy hour every week, and dinner and a movie deal in partnership with The Parish Restaurant.
Special Event Film Screenings and Filmmaker Q & A’s
Denizen offers a new movie every week on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30PM. Filmmakers, documentary subjects, film historians, and other luminaries are frequently invited to New Paltz to accompany film screenings. Special Event Screenings include Commune on SAT (10/4) at 7:30PM with Jonathan Berman; My Omaha on SUN (10/12) at 3:00PM an IRL Movie Club event (all tickets $5); The Twin on WED (10/22) and SAT (10/25) at 7:30PM with actor/producer Logan Donovan; encore screening of the hit comedy Bad Shabbos on WED (9/24), & SAT (9/27) at 7:30PM.
Beer, wine, cider and refreshments are available to be enjoyed before, during or after the show in the theatre, lounge or outdoor patio area.
Warren Etheredge, Lead Film Programmer has this to say: “With so many streaming options, how can anyone know what to watch? And even if you knew, could you find the title? The Denizen simplifies the search and glamorizes the experience, bringing New Paltz a true ‘home theater.’
This fall, the Denizen presents movies you may not have heard of, but definitely need to see and couldn’t anywhere else, unless you live in NYC or LA. We’ll be screening international hits, festival favorites, new cult classics and mainstream stand-outs that just aren’t getting the distribution they deserve. We’ll be serving up special guests and short films (preceding some features) along with beer and wine and snacks. All of this with the ambiance of a European arthouse cinema and the blue-collar attitude that makes watching movies great again.”
Stand Up Comedy
Denizen Theatre presents the fourth Friday comedy series, on the fourth Friday of each month now through October at 9:30PM. The series features a fresh mix of some of the best up-and-coming comedy talent from NYC and beyond. The lineups are full of rising stars and standout voices, bringing everything from sharp, well-crafted jokes to bold swinging crowd work. High-energy, hilarious, and full of surprises! The evenings are hosted by Anddy Egan-Thorpe, a stand-up comic and Murrow Award-winning podcast producer, born and raised in New Paltz. Each month three new comics will be featured in the sixty-minute show. Remaining Fourth Friday dates are: (9/26) and (10/24). Patrons are required to purchase at least one drink per person. Tickets are $20, and can purchased HERE.
Denizen Theatre presents the Love’s a Joke comedy tour October 9th at 7:30PM. Featuring tour co-founders Vicky Kuperman & Max Cohen, hosted by Scout Durwood. Love’s a Joke is a raucous and not-to-miss comedy tour as America’s funniest entertainers and comedy couples take the stage to dish on marriage, sex, divorce, parenthood, fighting, weddings, porn, and who (or what) they fantasize about when their spouse isn’t looking. They got married so you don’t have to. For more information visit: www.lovesajoke.com
