Irvington Theater to Host Ghost Light, A Haunting Celebration Of Westchester Artists

On Friday, Oct. 30 at 7:30PM, Irvington Theater will present Ghost Light, a one night-only, multidisciplinary Halloween performance featuring more than a dozen professional artists from  across the River Towns. Spanning music, poetry, theater, film, opera, and dance, the production transforms the Theater’s 124-year-old space into a haunting, ever-changing landscape of live  performance. Performances will unfold in unexpected corners of the theater, offering fresh perspectives on the historical space while audiences remain comfortably seated.

The title Ghost Light draws on a theatrical tradition of leaving a single light glowing onstage after the curtain falls. While serving a practical safety purpose, the ghost light has also inspired lore about the spirits said to linger in theaters long after the audience has gone.

Conceived by Irvington Theater Director Katerina Wong, Ghost Light reflects her vision for the Theater as a gathering place for artistic experimentation and community collaboration. “It’s been an honor to step into the role of Irvington Theater Director,” says Wong. “Conversations with local artists, cultural leaders, and residents in my first months have helped shape a shared vision for the Theater and inspired Ghost Light. In partnership with established and emerging Rivertowns arts organizations, including Rivers Edge  Theater Company and Hudson Valley Arts Collective, we’ve created a spellbinding evening of live art that captures the magic of Halloween in the Rivertowns. Join us, get into the spirit, and wear a costume if you wish!”

The collaborating organizations include:

The Hudson Valley Arts Collective, founded by Carolina Abreu, is a community-driven space for self-expression and creativity—rooted in the heart of the Rivertowns. The Hudson Valley Arts Collective presents a monthly Open Mic at Ludy Café in Irvington on the first Friday of the month, where writers of all kinds gather to share poems, stories, and spoken word in a warm, welcoming setting. Ghost Light featured artists include Hartsdale based poet Adina Beth Dovman and the Columbian-American  writer from Yonkers, Michael “Sals” Guisao.

River’s Edge Theatre Company (RETCo) is a non-profit organization based in Hastings-on Hudson with the mission to reflect the human experience, spark conversation, and inspire social change.  Founded in 2019 by theatre artists David and Meghan Covington, the company tackles important social issues such as social justice reform, gender equality, race, LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, mental health, and climate change. RETCo is founded on the belief that theatre is a powerful, reflective tool. When faced  with our own reflection, we can learn, we can evolve, and we can become willing participants in shaping our cultural landscape. Since its birth, RETCo has produced experimental staged readings, storytelling events, and fully staged productions, both in-person and virtually. River’s Edge has established itself as a  leader in experimental and boundary-pushing theatre in the region, putting the EDGE into the name
