Project Daffodil

"I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house. So I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air." — Nathaniel Hawthorne

What a perfect autumn day it was for the Tarrytown Beautification Foundation and their volunteers to plant over 25,000 daffodil bulbs Saturday, October 20.

Project Daffodil is in its 2nd year and has been reponsible for planting more than 55,000 spring flowering bulbs throughout the Village. This year we added more daffodils in Patriot’s Park. We planted against the wall on Wildey Street and Broadway, on both sides of Neperan Road (from Broadway to Altamont) and at the jug handle at Route 119 and Broadway. It is the intention of the Foundation to plant at least 10,000 bulbs every fall so that come Spring, there will be thousands of daffodils welcoming the end of the long winter with the promise of warm days to come.

We are very grateful to all our wonderful volunteers who helped us plant and, as always, we thank the DPW and Recreation Department for digging the holes. We especially thank Robert Welsch and his crew from Westover Landscape Design who followed us around with a wheelbarrow, back-filled the holes and tilled the soil, which enabled us to plant.

Because of this marvelous joint effort Project Daffodil will be a great success and we will usher in spring with a blast of color!
