At a recent public hearing on the proposed development of new homes in Tarrytown’s Wilson Park area, planning consultant Frank Fish reported the following:
Each proposed home would cost approximately $1,800,000.
Tax revenues to the Village of Tarrytown would be approximately $12,000* per year/ per home. School taxes would be approximately $20,000* per home with state aid in the form of the STAR program. (* based on 2006 tax rates)
Simple calculations for the development of approximately 14 to 16 new homes generate an estimated $448,000* to $512,000* in tax revenue annually for the Village of Tarrytown and the school system. (* based on 2006 tax rates)
At the same public hearing residents of Wilson Park made the following comments regarding proposed development in their sequestered neighborhood:
"It breaks my heart even having 14 houses on this land. It’s a travesty." – Karen Brown
"Bad architecture screws everyone for 50 to 75 years."
"Let’s not keep building Ichabod’s Landing."
"You know they are going to build big, stupid, hideous structures." – Joe Queenan
One final note:
According to native Tarrytowner, Richard Miller, Wilson Park got its name from William S. Wilson, who, "tended magnificent vineyards and orchards in that area."
