Main Street School held its annual Geography Bee on March 6, celebrating students as courageous learners. A group of 28 students demonstrated their knowledge of geography across the United States and the world. Fifth grader Avinash Feigon claimed the championship title, while fellow fifth grader Theo Kimmel earned runner-up honors.

The competition began with a pre-bee qualifying round that included 66 fourth graders and 53 fifth graders, all demonstrating their curiosity and a strong commitment to learning. From this group, 16 fourth graders and 12 fifth graders advanced as finalists.

“We recognize and congratulate all of the students who took a risk to try for the Geo Bee,” Principal Joyce Chapnick said. “We are very proud of all of the students who participated.”

This year’s event was moderated by Irvington High School social studies department chair and teacher Chris Barry and Westchester County Legislator David Imamura. Special thanks to Rachel Nevins for her pivotal role on the Geography Bee Committee and to committee members Stacey Cole, Nancy Deakin and Gaby Witt for serving as judges.

The event was made possible through the support of the PTSA, reinforcing the school’s shared commitment to fostering a love of learning in students.
