Dows Lane Elementary School first graders used vertical learning strategies to engage in sentence-level work during a lesson in teacher Lina Lee’s classroom. Through hands-on, interactive activities, the students constructed sentences, explored foundational grammar and expanded their vocabulary in meaningful ways.
“By honing these skills, the students develop the confidence and ability to express themselves clearly and coherently, working toward becoming effective communicators and setting the stage for future success in reading and writing as they advance,” Lee said.
The activity directly aligned with the district’s Portrait of a Graduate, which aims to create courageous learners, effective communicators, engaged citizens and self-aware individuals.
