Studio 38…A Welcoming Space, Attend a Class or Teach One

Many local residents will remember the fire that raged through the upper floors of the multi-story brick building at 38 Beekman Avenue in May of 2007. The building had been a residence and also housed several businesses on its ground floor.

It was built by Robert Solari and his father in 1985. Solari, who was born and raised in Sleepy Hollow, has recently reopened the building and he along with two partners have an exciting new venture called Studio 38. It is a space dedicated to the performing arts, the healing arts and the martial arts. A number of professional teachers and healers are holding their classes and offering services within Studio 38. The range of offerings includes massage therapy, acting, dancing, martial arts, acupuncture and a host of other classes.

One of Solari’s partners is Tom Richer, a Briarcliff Manor resident who is a member of the Sleepy Hollow Lion’s Club and an AYSO coach.  "I’m really excited about my first arts and wellness-focused venture. There is something extremely rewarding about being involved in enabling the arts and wellness in an historic village that is undergoing revitalization. At Studio 38, with our breadth of programs in the performing arts, dance arts, martial arts, group fitness and wellness, we hope to be a catalyst for furthering these important social elements in Sleepy Hollow," he said.

Kevin Suggs also a partner in Studio 38 holds a 5th degree black belt in Goju karate. He founded the Port Chester Karate Club and also the Shin Ri Tan Kyu Martial Arts Academy which is located on the SUNY Purchase campus. In the late 90’s Suggs introduced a Cardio Kickboxing curriculum to Club Fit in Briarcliff. That program has grown to over 150 participants and combines aerobics, strength training, balance and stretching techniques.

All three men are excited about the range of courses offered at Studio 38. And what’s more, the studio space offers multiple opportunities for additional classes. People needing space for a lecture, class or just about any other social event can call 914-333-0038 or visit mystudio38.com. Studio 38 is located just west of Sleepy Hollow’s Village Hall and adequate parking exists in the municipal lot across the street.

"My ultimate goal is to help rebuild the business district in Sleepy Hollow so that the current and future residents of our Village will benefit from it," Solari said. Studio 38 is the result of three men seeking to bring vitality into the Village through a multitude of interesting classes as well as a space for the healing arts.
