From the top of the heap in the world of Westchester radio, to the Holy Mountain in Garrison. Throw in a podcast, life coaching, non-profit consulting, women’s retreat leader, and public speaking – and you start to get a picture of the powerhouse that is Kacey Morabito-Grean.
She was co-host of the popular radio show Mike and Kacey in the Morning on WHUD 100.7 for nearly 25 years, until she left in October 2024 to become director of the retreat center at Graymoor. That’s a sprawling 450-acre retreat and conference center that The Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Atonement have called home for more than 125 years. Their mission: “The Unity of Men & Women with God and with One Another.” They’re situated on 450 acres right off Route 9 in Garrison, and all are welcome – regardless of their faith.
Morabito-Grean was born in Peekskill, and raised in Verplanck, and she’s been visiting Graymoor since she was 10 years old. “I first came with my mother and grandmother, and knew it was a special place and a holy, peaceful place.” And when she was considering a job change, she also knew this was a place that she wanted to work. “The Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Atonement are the warmest and most welcoming people I have ever known. It’s both a thrill and an honor to be in their presence and working with them every day.”
She also says her decision to leave the world of radio came right from the heart “One day I was at the microphone, and I just got a feeling saying there’s more. I knew that I needed to get off the air and deeper into the community. I needed more engagement.” It was time to move on, but Morabito-Grean is also leaving behind some nice memories, “The part I miss the most is when a young person would say ‘I’m interested in broadcasting, and I’d like to take a tour.’ I miss that so much.”
At Graymoor she’s creating events and also booking the retreat center for those who wish to use it. And she takes great pleasure in welcoming people to the surroundings and facility, “I know there are tons of people who drive past the Graymoor sign every day, and I want to invite everyone to come in and walk the grounds and feel that peace that I felt when I was 10 years old.”
Morabito-Grean also hosts a podcast called Shine On: The Health and Happiness Show that started as a Sunday morning radio show on WHUD. Shine On has clocked more than 600 episodes, and counting, and its available on all major platforms. A-list guests have included bestselling author and former presidential candidate Marianne Williamson, “Eat, Pray, Love” author Elizabeth Gilbert, and poet Mark Nepo – just to name a few. She says the mission of the podcast “Is to introduce people to new ways of finding more ease in their life. Many of us are reluctant travelers thrown into this life unprepared for it. I am looking for tools for myself, and if I can find tools that I can share, I do it.”
Shine On was also a springboard for some of Morabito-Grean’s other ventures. From the podcast she started doing events and retreats and also formed two Facebook groups – A Circle of Women and A Circle of Prayer. “I formed the Facebook groups to be able to share information about upcoming events, then everyone else started to share their events – and we formed this amazing and powerful community that now has 2,000 members,” says Morabito-Grean.
She’s also founder of Let It Shine Inc, a non-profit that offers small gifts and grants to women in need and transition in Westchester and the Hudson Valley. Let It Shine runs The Pantry in Verplanck, The Let It Shine Again Thrift Boutique and The Market on the River.
She’s juggling a lot of different things, but says they are all connected, “It sounds like a lot – but it’s all one thing: I gather love and give it away.”
