Letter to the Editor: The Selfish Parking Restrictions in Philips Manor

Dear River Journal,

What, if anything, is going to be done about the artificial, and incredibly selfish single day parking restrictions and enforcement brought about in Philips Manor?

It can only come from either this cozy little hamlet projecting a NIMBY attitude, or the local municipality. Or both.

It is the larger community who suffers. They simply come to enjoy a nice day in the beautiful Kings Point Park. (Take your pick of events; The Music Festival, The Mermaid Fest, any and every other event held there.)

That larger community is made up of admission paying, well behaved, civilized parents, young children and seniors.

Not only are they further, and unnecessarily inconvenienced by this, but also inflicted with a $50 parking violation ticket. This is well enforced by the local authorities from Sleepy Hollow. They make sure to tag EVERY car they can find. Yes, I got one last year.

It is incredibly inhospitable, and maybe even illegal. And where does all that revenue go?If certain of these residents or government officials want to live in a gated community, let them pack up and move to one. They can be easily found either on the local Board of Trustees and/or Village Hall.

These are public streets that have been hijacked during these great events.

Assign one of your crusading journalists to bring this repulsive behavior to the larger communities’ attention.

The sooner the better, the 2026 Spring/Summer season has arrived.
