My office is starting an online petition calling on the state to place speed cameras on the Sprain Parkway.
The Sprain Brook Parkway, situated in Westchester County, New York, has become one of the most perilous roadways in the region. This thoroughfare has seen a disconcerting rise in traffic incidents and fatalities, often attributed to excessive speeding. The demand for enhanced safety measures has never been more pressing. Unfortunately, the reality of limited law enforcement resources means there are not enough police officers available to continuously patrol this busy parkway to enforce speed limits effectively.
In a proactive move, New York State declared in June 2025 the deployment of speed cameras on various highways across the state. These devices have proven to reduce speeding and improve road safety by ensuring consistent enforcement without the need for additional personnel. Despite the state’s announcements, the Sprain Parkway remains inexplicably absent from the list of roads selected for this initiative. Meanwhile, drivers continue to flout speed regulations, putting both themselves and others at significant risk.
The introduction of speed cameras on the Sprain Parkway would play a pivotal role in curbing reckless behavior and safeguarding the lives of countless commuters. Speed cameras serve as an impartial enforcement tool that operates around the clock, providing a constant deterrent against speeding and ensuring compliance with speed limits.
