Letter to the Editor: Open the Streets of Philips Manor to Our Visitors

River Journal,

Consider bringing attention to the decidedly inhospitable behavior by the residents of Philips Manor. Events at Kingsland Point Park are a terrific occurrence. They are attended and enjoyed by locals, as well as others who are interested and attracted to our blessed community.

Most annoyingly, it’s apparent that Philips Manor thinks of itself as a gated community by projecting a NIMBY sentiment. An unabashed enforcement of non-existent parking regulations has marred these events. Those open, public streets suddenly are subject to artificial parking restrictions. And $50 tickets. Yes, I got one.
Really?! Who do we thank for that?
I saw entire lengths of streets where every single car parked had a ticket. Many of those cars brough parents with young children, and seniors.
Most of the kind, sharing residents and neighbors I know, realize how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. This is easily shared. We can prove our appreciation, and show some humility. Welcome the folks who peacefully and civilly attend these events. Resume free parking on the streets. Offer greater ease to others attending. If that also means a few additional shifts by our local police and sanitation to keep or restore tidiness, so be it.
