Letter to the Editor: Mike Lawler on Medicaid Cuts

On July 12th, I received an email newsletter from Rep. Mike Lawler and I’m wondering how he reconciles what he says with how he voted.  In the newsletter he stated:

“I was proud to speak at the Westchester Medical Center Annual Legislative Breakfast and reaffirm my commitment to protecting Medicaid,…”

However, on the VOTE to pass the “Big Brutal (not Beautiful) Bill, which includes massive changes to Medicaid and aims to reduce Medicaid spending by an estimated $880 billion – $1trillion, he voted YES!  That was nine days before he “reaffirmed” his commitment to protect Medicaid!

I can’t reconcile that.  Can you?  I sent an email to Rep. Lawler and asked him how HE reconciles it, but, needless to say, I did not get a reply.

Btw, the horrible new work and reporting demands that will likely cause many people to lose Medicaid are not going into effect until after the mid-term elections. Would that be to fool mid-term voters who will be hurt into thinking they won’t be affected? Won’t they be sadly surprised when it happens?
