Letter to the Editor: Endorsement for Ossining BOE

As a parent of young children just beginning their journey in the Ossining schools, I’m paying close attention to the leadership helping guide our district’s future. Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know Rob Melstein, and I’m pleased to support his re-election to the Ossining Board of Education.

Many of my friends and neighbors are families just starting out in the district. We want strong schools, safe and well-maintained buildings, and leaders who are willing to listen to the concerns and ideas of parents who are new to the system. In my experience, Rob has been exactly that kind of leader.

Rob is approachable, thoughtful, and genuinely interested in hearing from members of the community. Recently I hosted a small gathering of local parents so we could talk about our schools and the future of the district. Rob welcomed the conversation and took the time to listen carefully to the perspectives of families whose children are just beginning their educational journey here.

That kind of openness matters. It helps ensure that the voices of younger families — who will be part of this school community for many years to come — are part of the conversation. In a community as diverse as Ossining, it’s important that families from all backgrounds feel heard and represented.

Ossining voters recently approved a major capital bond that will build a new school and make important improvements across the district. With projects of that scale now moving forward, it’s important to have experienced trustees like Rob who understand the work that went into the planning and who are committed to ensuring these investments are carried out responsibly and benefit students for years to come.

From what I’ve seen, Rob approaches his role with care, preparation, and a genuine commitment to our community. I’m grateful for his service and believe Ossining will benefit from his continued leadership on the Board of Education.

I hope our community will join me in supporting Rob Melstein in this year’s school board election on May 19 at Ossining High School.
