To the Editor,
The Trustees of the Croton Free Library invite the community to two upcoming information sessions. The topic is local and personal: the Library itself—its present and its future.
- On April 6 at 7 p.m., architect Paul Mays of Butler Rowland Mays Architects will present a proposed renovation of the library building and answer questions about the design.
- On April 30 at 7 p.m., Library Director Jesse Bourdon will present the proposed 2026-2027 library budget.
As trustees, we’ve seen how different the Library feels depending on when you walk through the door: toddlers at storytime, schoolchildren studying, evening lectures, book clubs, blood drives, and community gatherings of every kind. The Library continually changes as it absorbs and reflects the needs of the community—free and open to all.
One of our central responsibilities is ensuring the Library’s building and finances remain strong so its staff can continue providing the services people rely on. Since 2020, we have been studying the building’s needs and considering how the Library will be used in the years ahead—planning for programs, staffing, and daily operations so it can serve our community well into the future.
Our building, constructed in 1965, requires essential updates to the roof, heating, electrical, and energy systems. Our new plan includes those upgrades as well as a redesign that makes better use of our existing space—such as an expanded children’s area, a safer and more functional entryway, and reconfigured meeting rooms to accommodate both smaller groups and larger gatherings.
We hope to see you at both sessions—there is much to look forward to.
Sincerely,
Susan Ranis
President, Board of Trustees
Croton Free Library
