Dear Editor,
As Earth Day 2025 approaches, I invite the Croton-on-Hudson community to come together in celebration of our planet and a more sustainable future. On Saturday, May 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Senasqua Park, we will gather for a day filled with education, action, and community spirit along the beautiful Hudson River. (Rain date: May 10.)
At a time when climate change, habitat loss, and environmental challenges continue to impact our world, local action has never been more important. Our Earth Day celebration isn’t just about recognizing the issues—it’s about engaging with real solutions, learning from experts, and taking steps together toward a cleaner, greener future.
This year’s event will feature hands-on activities, educational exhibits, and opportunities to make a tangible impact. Families can join the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee’s bike ride at 1 p.m., explore the Hudson through a 2 p.m. seining activity, and get creative with arts and crafts. Organizations like Teatown, Sustainable Westchester, and Hudson River Sloop Clearwater will share insights on conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable living. The Croton Sustainability Committee will host a Textile Collection Event, encouraging residents to recycle used clothing instead of sending it to landfills.
Local Girl Scout Troop 2729 will run a clothing upcycling booth, showing how small changes—like repurposing and thrifting—can help reduce waste. Meanwhile, attendees can learn about the Dark Sky Initiative, test their knowledge on indoor air quality and mold testing, and even take home a free native tree to plant. And, of course, no community event would be complete without great food—enjoy authentic Mexican specialties, Blue Pig ice cream, and drinks from Siphoney, all served on compostable tableware.
Earth Day is more than a celebration; it’s a reminder that each of us plays a role in protecting our environment. Whether you come to learn, take action, or simply enjoy the beauty of the Hudson, your presence makes a difference. I encourage everyone in Croton-on-Hudson to join us, get involved, and be part of this movement toward a more sustainable future.
Together, we can make a lasting impact—starting right here in our own community.
