Join us at the museum for the opening of our 2026 season!
Meet Ulysses S. Grant, American President and Commanding General of the Union Armies, as portrayed by Ben Kemp from the Grant Cottage State Historic Site in Wilton, NY. Learn about Grant’s early life, his time as our local neighbor at West Point, his military service, and his two terms as President of the United States.
In conjunction with our new exhibit of Civil War era Illustrations and Cartoons, hear about U.S. Grant’s relationship with cartoonist Thomas Nast. It was reported that Grant credited his 1868 Presidential election to the “Sword of Sheridan and the Pencil of Thomas Nast.” Lincoln is believed to have made similar remarks about Nast during the Civil War, noting that Thomas Nast has been our best Recruiting Sergeant!
Join us at the Lincoln Depot Museum on April 25th with special guest, Ben Kemp, who will bring Ulysses S. Grant to life, sharing his amazing life story, and answering all of your questions. Mrs. Grant will be accompanying the General!
