New Kid, New You: Writing the Graphic Novel You’ve Always Dreamed About with Lily Andrews
August 11-15, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Grades 5-8
Students will be instructed in the basics of graphic novel format including gutters, speech bubbles, thought bubbles, and character line-drawing. Students will have the option to use pen or thin-tipped marker and to add color (or not) to their finished pieces. Students will also read excerpts from a number of graphic novels including Magic Fish, New Kid, El Deafo, and Persepolis, using these as models for their own graphic adaptations.
This camp will run from 9:00 AM -12:00 PM in person at the Hudson Valley Writers Center. Students have the option to register for the full day, including Let’s Make a Play in the afternoon, until 4pm. Students who attend camp full-day will be expected to bring a lunch.
