The Village of Tarrytown is pleased to announce that on Friday, February 28, Mayor Karen Brown appointed Richard Isaacson as the new Village Justice of Tarrytown, NY. Isaacson fills the vacancy left by Judge Kyle McGovern, who was elected to the New York State Supreme Court in November 2024.
This appointment will carry through the remainder of the year, and Mr. Isaacson intends to run in the upcoming fall election to serve the remainder of Judge McGovern’s unexpired term, which extends through December 2027. The full term for a Village Justice in Tarrytown is four years. Mr. Isaacson will be sworn in as Judge and take his oath of office at the Village Board Meeting on Monday, March 3, 2025.
“Rich Isaacson brings a unique combination of legal expertise and executive leadership to the position, making him well-suited to oversee the administration of justice in Tarrytown’s Village Court,” said Mayor Brown. “His professionalism, integrity, and strong connection to our community will serve our residents well.”
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Isaacson has deep roots in the Tarrytown community. He and his wife, Marianne, have lived in Tarrytown for more than 20 years and raised their three children here. His strong connection to the Village gives him a deep understanding of the community’s values and needs, which will help guide his work on the bench.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Isaacson earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) after completing his Bachelor of Science in Labor Relations at Cornell University. His legal background, combined with decades of experience in leadership, negotiation, and business management, positions him to serve the community with fairness, professionalism, and integrity.
“I am honored to have been appointed by Mayor Brown and serve the Village of Tarrytown,” said Isaacson. “My goal is to ensure that our court continues to operate with the highest level of integrity, fairness, and respect for all who come before it.”
