Open Door Family Medical Centers…New Sleepy Hollow Location

Open Door Family Medical Centers has announced that it will open its new health center in Sleepy Hollow at 300 North Broadway (Route 9) in late-February. The 12,500 square-foot facility will offer primary and preventative medical care, family medicine, dental care, behavioral health care, and women’s health care including prenatal care, as well as nutrition, wellness and patient advocacy programs.

The location will also provide expanded facilities for the Phelps Family Medicine Residency Program and the launch of the General Dental Practice Residency Program that Open Door provides in partnership with New York Medical College and Phelps Hospital Northwell Health.

Open Door has been a part of the fabric of the community in Sleepy Hollow for more than 30 years, operating a facility on Beekman Avenue. That facility will close as Open Door transitions to the larger, state-of-the-art location on North Broadway. The non-profit organization renovated a long vacant building on Route 9 in order to create the health center, and renovated adjacent parking facilities, as well.

Open Door serves more than 55,000 patients each year throughout Westchester and Putnam Counties. The organization provides more than 300,000 patient visits at 14 locations, including six community health centers, six school-based health centers and two mobile dental vans.

With recent changes in the national health care landscape, Open Door’s role is more vital than ever before. The organization offers a sliding fee scale to people who might not otherwise be able to afford heath care. Additionally, Open Door accepts many insurance plans. Despite uncertainty in Federal funding, Open Door has been able to expand services through a mix of public and private funding, opening a new facility in Mamaroneck, New York in the spring of 2017, and now expanding services in Sleepy Hollow.

Lindsay Farrell, President and CEO of Open Door Family Medical Centers, commented, “We’re grateful that Sleepy Hollow residents and Village officials have supported the work of Open Door for more than three decades. Community health centers are more important than ever before as a way to better manage public health and health care costs. We benefit all residents by fostering healthy communities and reducing the burden on area hospitals.”

I’m particularly pleased that the new Sleepy Hollow location expands the capabilities of our residency programs. There is a critical shortage of primary care physicians in the United States, and yet we know just what a vital role they play in providing cost-effective, yet high quality care. Operating out of this larger state-of-the-art facility will increase our reach and extend our positive impact in the surrounding communities.”

The new Sleepy Hollow location joins existing Open Door health centers in Brewster, Mamaroneck, Mt. Kisco, Ossining, and Port Chester, in addition to six school-based health centers and mobile dental services. Open Door Sleepy Hollow will feature 18 medical exam rooms, four dental operatories and support facilities such as labs and counseling space. The new location will also offer program areas for the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). A kitchen area has been designed to facilitate cooking demonstrations in support of Open Door’s nutrition programs.
