Phelps Memorial Hospital Center’s Healthy Life series continues to offer the community a wide range of programs on health-related subjects, as well as numerous health screenings and support groups. All events take place on the Phelps campus, 701 North Broadway in Sleepy Hollow, unless otherwise noted. The Phelps Healthy Life calendar for September 2014 is as follows: Wednesday, September 3 – Mind Games is a free activity and a fun way for seniors to help stimulate their minds and improve cognitive functioning by playing board games and computer games that stimulate memory, visual recall, problem solving, focus and speed, and spatial reasoning. Wednesdays, September 3 and 17 – Blood Pressure Screenings Conducted the first and third Wednesday mornings of every month at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow from 9:30 – 11:30 am in the Walkway Conference Room. Thursdays, September 4, 11, 18 and 25 – Farmers Market at Phelps Visit the Farmers Market at Phelps from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm every Thursday through October to purchase farm-fresh produce, cheeses, baked goods, prepared foods and more. Monday, September 8 – Look Good . . . Feel Better This free 2-hour program teaches beauty techniques to women going through cancer treatment. Includes a makeup and hair consultation and a complimentary makeup kit and wig to take home. Held the first Monday of the month at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 755 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow in room 545. Registration is required. Tuesday, September 9 – Better Breathers Club – Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group The Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group welcomes those with pulmonary fibrosis to learn and share with others. A light lunch will be served. At Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, from 12 – 1 pm in the Pulmonary Lab (B Level). Thursday, September 11 – The Breakfast Club is a series of free breakfast meetings designed especially for seniors. Each session includes breakfast, a presentation on a healthy lifestyle topic and a light exercise program. The group meets monthly, except for August and December, 8:30-10:30 am in the Cafeteria (G Level) at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 701 North Broadway in Sleepy Hollow. Thursday, September 11 – Osteoporosis Education and Support Monthly programs that provide information on the causes and treatments for osteoporosis, nutrition, medications, and exercise and offer support to those with osteoporosis. Thursday, September 25 – Sleep Well Support Group Do you or a loved one have a problem sleeping at night? Are you having difficulty with the treatment for your sleep disorder? The Sleep Well Support group provides an opportunity for people with sleep disorders and their family members to come together to share experiences and learn about sleep disorders and treatment options. The group meets every other month at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, 755 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow in the 4th Floor Family Medicine Residency Conference Room from 7 – 8:30 pm.
