Lots of Hudson Valley artists have prominent roles in “Glass Ceiling Breakers,” a three-day festival of plays and films by women artists, now in its fifth year. It is presented at Philipstown Depot Theatre in Garrison Landing by production company Theater Revolution (TR), headed by Founder and Artistic Director Gabrielle Fox of Mount Kisco and Co-Producer Nora Matz of Garrison.
On the three-day program are 24 short films and five stage plays, selected from hundreds of submissions from around the world.
Among the filmmakers is Peekskill resident Carol Bash, Founder and President of Paradox Films and Programmer of the Peekskill Film Festival. Her film Blueprint for My People will be screened at the Garrison festival. It is a visual poem that explores the African American journey by featuring rare, archival cyanotypes (aka blueprints).
Actor and playwright Ed Friedman of Peekskill plays Mel and Anne Glickman of Croton-on-Hudson is Ruthie in the play “Stand-Up Guy” by Lori Meyers, and directed by Flori Doyle of Cortlandt. Jacob Irons of Ossining plays Boy in “The Makeout Session.” Tarrytown actor Adam Black is Tyler in “The Unwanted,” playing opposite the playwright, Rofa Abayon of Katonah, as Mikaela. Michele Concha of Ossining directs “Artistic Integrity” by Gabrielle Fox. Brewster’s Patrick McGuiness is Frank Jones in “Peregrination” by Jessica Bonds of Yonkers, directed by Rachel Jones of Brookfield, Conn.
Screenings of the two dozen short films will be paired with Q&A sessions featuring the filmmakers. There also is a free panel discussion titled Conversations with Women in Show Business. Panelists include Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Annetta Marion, known for her work on Oprah’s Master Class, and, most recently, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie that she produced and second-unit directed. Also on the panel is C. Fitz, who has earned multiple awards for her work spanning television, documentary feature films, and commercials.
After the festival, Theater Revolution will announce which films will be given an encore screening at the Best of the Fest at the Bedford Playhouse on September 18, 2025.
Tickets are $27 for plays and $17 for each film block. Visit theatrerevolution.org for information on tickets and all of the artists involved.
