Students from Irvington Middle School recently represented the district at the annual MathCounts Chapter Competition, joining peers from across Westchester and Putnam counties for a day of challenging problem-solving and mathematical collaboration.

MathCounts is a national middle school mathematics program that promotes problem-solving skills through a series of competitions at the chapter, state and national levels. Irvington’s Math Club participants prepared throughout the year by tackling rigorous practice problems, strengthening their reasoning skills and working collaboratively to refine their strategies.

Competing at this level requires perseverance, focus and a willingness to take on complex challenges, qualities that Irvington students demonstrated throughout the event.

Sixth grader Noah Robbins reflected on the experience, sharing, “The competition was fun and I look forward to coming back next year and the year after.”

Classmate Audrey Sherwin added, “I like coming to Math Club because we do challenging math problems and I get to work on them with really smart kids who also love math.”

Irvington Middle School’s Math Club continues to provide students with opportunities to deepen their mathematical thinking, build confidence and connect with peers who share a passion for problem solving. The district congratulates all of this year’s participants for their hard work and dedication and looks forward to their continued growth in the years ahead.
