Irvington High School students who are members of the Science Research program had an outstanding performance at the 24th annual Regeneron Westchester Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF) on March 15 at Somers High School. They were among more than 780 students from 43 high schools from across Westchester and Putnam counties to present their research projects at the prestigious competition.
“We are incredibly proud of our science research students for their outstanding achievement in winning an award at WESEF,” Science Research teachers Amy Ma and Nadia Parikka said. “Their hard work, dedication, and passion for discovery have truly set them apart, and this recognition is a testament to their exceptional talents and commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.”
The following 14 students were recognized for their research with awards:
- Linnea Barrachin – third place in Animal Sciences.
- Max Bloom – third place in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics.
- Tess Brady – NOAA Taking the Pulse of the Planet Award.
- Deven Choksi – third place in Plant Science and International GENIUS Olympiad Finalist.
- Ali Cloutman – Ricoh Sustainable Development Award.
- Anna Dorokhova – third place in Animal Science and Creative Approach to Research Award.
- Marlo Gordon – Ingenuity in Math, Physics and Astronomy Award.
- Simran Jain – second place in Neuroscience.
- Jordana Laks – fourth place in Neuroscience.
- Ben Meyer – first place in Computer Science and Excellence in Computer Science and Mathematics Award.
- Matthew O’Reilly – fourth place in Animal Science.
- Lena Svigals – Teatown Young Environmentalist Award.
- Michelle Zhou – fourth place in Cellular and Molecular Biology.
- Scott Zinman – American Psychological Association Award.
The students’ success was made possible thanks to the incredible preparation, expert coaching, and guidance provided by their dedicated science research teachers, who have helped set the students up for success in the competition.
