Croton-on-Hudson Recognized with Awards from NY Conference of Mayors and Planning Federation

On Thursday, May 29, the Village of Croton-on-Hudson was honored by the New York Conference of Mayors and the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation for recent accomplishments: the Train Station Solar Canopy Project and the Accessory Dwelling Unit legislation adopted by the Village Board.

The New York Conference of Mayors (NYCOM) presented the Local Government Achievement Award to the Village for its solar canopy project at the Croton-Harmon Train Station parking lot, which is contributing to both the environmental health and fiscal health of the Village. The carport array has the capacity to power several hundred homes and generates $40,000 per month in revenue for the Village. For more information on this project, please visit the projects and initiatives page on the Village website.

NYCOM President RuthAnn Loveless stated, “Croton-on-Hudson’s train station solar project is a powerful example of how municipalities can turn underutilized space into clean energy assets that benefit the entire community. This project reflects smart planning, strong partnerships and long-term thinking. I applaud Village Manager Bryan Healy and the Village Board for their leadership and commitment to sustainability.”

The Westchester Municipal Planning Federation (WMPF) honored Zoning Board of Appeals chair Christine Wagner with a Distinguished Citizen Planner Award in recognition of her service to the Croton-on-Hudson. Ms. Wagner has served on the Zoning Board since 2014 and has served as chair since 2018, providing leadership to the board as it has navigated through dozens of variance applications and changes in the zoning code.

The planning federation also presented a Commendation to the Village for its recently enacted Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) legislation, which updated regulations for accessory apartments in the Village and allowed accessory cottages in residential districts for the first time. Since the local law was adopted, 11 ADUs have been approved in the Village. For more information on this legislation, please visit the projects and initiatives page on the Village website.

Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg, who also provided citations to the Village in recognition of these achievements, stated, “Congratulations to the small but mighty Village of Croton-on-Hudson on its well-deserved recognition by the New York Conference of Mayors for the iconic carport solar at the Village’s parking lot and the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation for your accessory dwelling unit law. Croton-on-Hudson continues to advance on many fronts. These awards are a testament to Croton’s tradition of progressive leadership.”
