Westchester County Secures Two Local Public Hearings on Con Edison’s Proposed Rate Hikes

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has secured two in-person public hearings on the proposed Con Edison gas and electric rate increases. The hearings come in response to Jenkins’ formal request to the Administrative Law Judges overseeing the rate case, urging that Westchester residents be given a local forum to voice their concerns.

Members of the public are invited to speak on the record regarding Con Edison’s proposed changes to electric and gas delivery rates and practices. Anyone wishing to comment will have the opportunity to do so at the following hearings:

Tuesday, July 8
Time: 1 and 6 PM
Location: Cortlandt Town Hall – Vincent F. Nyberg Meeting Room
1 Heady Street, Cortlandt Manor
More info: July 8 Hearing Info

Wednesday, July 9
Time: 1 and 6 PM
Location: Westchester County Center – First Floor Meeting Room
198 Central Avenue, White Plains
More info: July 9 Hearing Info

Jenkins previously testified during a virtual Public Service Commission (PSC) hearing, rejecting the rate hikes on behalf of Westchester families and small businesses: “I am here for working-class families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small business owners already struggling to make ends meet. Forcing people to choose between heating their homes and putting food on the table is not just bad policy—it’s unacceptable.”

While acknowledging the importance of investing in clean energy and modern infrastructure, Jenkins called on the PSC to reject the proposed rate increases, citing the lack of transparency and disproportionate burden on consumers.

Jenkins also recently signed legislation solidifying the County’s formal opposition to the rate hikes. The move follows a unanimous, bipartisan vote by the Westchester County Board of Legislators to intervene in the state’s major rate case against Con Edison.
