Build confidence, learn real-world skills and work outdoors this summer as a Westchester County Parks Lifeguard. We are accepting applications to become a Lifeguard and registrations for Lifeguard Certification courses for the 2026 summer season.

The first training session begins Saturday, January 31 at Theodore Young Community Center, 32 Manhattan Ave., White Plains. Participants must be at least 15 years old for pool training and 16 years old for beach training by the last day of the classes. Additional training sessions will be announced.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said: “Lifeguarding teaches teenagers and young adults responsibility and accountability, which makes it an outstanding first job and an important introduction to the expectations of the professional workforce. I encourage those who are interested in becoming a Lifeguard to take that first step and register for training courses.”
Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathy O’Connor said: “Our pools and beaches are some of Westchester County’s most popular summer destinations, and our lifeguards are the ones who make these facilities so special. Through their training and dedication, they help create safe, welcoming environments where families can relax and enjoy the season with confidence.”
Applicants must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for Lifeguards certification, or an equivalent credential, and successfully complete the Westchester County practical skills test. Westchester County Parks offers training for new lifeguards, including waterfront certification for those interested in working at pool or beach locations.
Those applying must be able to work at Playland Pool in Rye, Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains, Sprain Ridge Pool and The Brook at Tibbetts in Yonkers, Willson’s Waves Pool in Mount Vernon; and Croton Point Park Beach in Croton-on-Hudson, Glen Island Beach in New Rochelle, and Playland Beach in Rye.
