The Four T’s of Getaway Day

july-4th-commuteIn advance of “getaway days” such as this Friday (for July 4), Clever Commute compiles a “Getaway Day Report” for our premium customers who will be taking the trains out of NYC on Thursday. Clever Commute was founded in 2006. We therefore have rich and detailed databases of commuter “alerts”…which we use to compile the below.

1. tickets..Tickets…TICKETS
If you (or someone you are traveling with on Friday) will need a train or bus ticket, buy it BEFORE FRIDAY. Take the time on Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday to purchase in advance.

Trust us: lines will be VERY LONG on Friday…especially between 2:00 and 3:00 PM.

Check out NJT’s MyTix mobile app for tickets.

2. Timing – It’s all about the timing. For July 4 weekend, catch a train before 2:00 PM to avoid the worst crowds and biggest delays.
July 4 crowds reach their peak between 2:00 and 3:00.

During that time, the terminals will be at least as crowded as a typical rush hour. To make matters worse, it can remain crowded until 7:00 PM or later.

3. Timetables – Extra service

4. Tips:
Dress in layers – the terminal or the trains can be warm.

Bring water/snacks – save time…save money. Plan ahead.

Travel light – There is going to be lots of luggage around on Friday. Plan your baggage now…NOT on Friday morning 🙂
