The Giglio Games, a basketball tournament which began in 1991, are a decades-long tradition created to honor the memory of Vincent and Terry Giglio, who died in a car accident in 1990. Vincent Giglio dedicated more than a quarter of a century to the Lakeland School District as an administrator, teacher, coach and friend. This year the games will be held on Saturday, February 1, beginning at 9 a.m. at Lakeland High School.
The memorial games bring Lakeland and Walter Panas High Schools together for a friendly competition, giving the winners bragging rights for the year and the coveted golden basketball trophies created for the event. Proceeds support the scholarship created in memory of Vincent and Terry Giglio and awarded to a student-athlete at both Lakeland and Walter Panas High Schools.
Trophy ceremonies are held at the end of each game. The day’s events are open to the public. There is no admission fee. Suggested donations to support the scholarship fund are $5 for adults, $2 for students. Come for one game or enjoy a day filled with basketball.
